Road Warriors take Game Five

In a series that has yet to see the home team win a game, the Eagles hoped that trend would continue as they traveled to Georgina on Friday night for Game 5.

1st Period

It was another quick start for the Eagles, much like in Game 4. This time, it took only 1:52 to get on the board thanks to a goal by Brock Mathieson. The Eagles played a dominant defensive game, holding the Ice to just 6 shots in the opening frame.

2nd Period

Action remained tight with only one penalty called in the second period, going to Georgina at the 15-minute mark. However, the Eagles were unable to convert on the power play, leaving the score at 1-0.

3rd Period

The final frame provided the game’s turning point. In the last minute of play, Nate Gillis was called for delay of game, awarding the Ice a penalty shot. It was a high-stakes rematch from Game 3: Sebastien Ferris vs. Nate Gillis. While Ferris won the previous battle, this time Gillis stood tall and made the massive save to preserve the 1-0 lead.

Gianluca Meli added an empty-netter shortly after to seal the deal. Once again, the Eagles return home with a one-game lead in the series, now leading 3 games to 2. Nate Gillis earned the shutout, stopping all 21 shots faced.
