Eagles Win Streak hits Five (longest of the season)

Clarington Eagles Recap: A Double-Header Sweep

The Clarington Eagles were set to play two games in Schomberg this past week—a Thursday/Saturday set necessitated by a weather-related cancellation a few weeks ago. Here is how the action unfolded:

Thursday Night: Eagles Fly High in the Opener

1st Period: It was a fairly even start, with the Eagles outshooting the Cougars 14–10. The only marker of the frame came off the stick of Brayden Hicks, whose 13th goal of the season gave Clarington the early lead.

2nd Period: Defensive play dominated again with only one goal scored in the period. Once more, it belonged to the Eagles, as Theo Lavender found the back of the net to make it 2–0.

3rd Period: Jack Geniole extended the lead to three before Schomberg finally got on the board with a goal by Samuel Lamy. However, three minutes later, an unassisted goal by Blake Peters-Davey iced the game. The Eagles celebrated a 4–1 victory, with Jairus Ford earning the win between the pipes after making 21 saves.

Saturday Night: The Rematch

1st Period: This period was the reverse of Thursday. Only one goal was scored, but this time it belonged to Schomberg’s Wesley Redshaw at the 6:33 mark.

2nd Period: As a fellow PA Announcer, I truly felt for the Schomberg announcer during this frame! The Eagles exploded for five goals in a stunning 2 minutes and 31 seconds:

8:20 – Gianluca Meli

9:37 – Jack Geniole

10:19 – Ben Stycuk

10:40 – Connor Ivey

10:51 – Nolan Winter

Schomberg answered back with two quick goals of their own within a minute (Nathan Marincola and Michael Gomez) to make it 5–3 heading into the third.

3rd Period: Gomez scored his second of the game to cut the lead to one, but the Eagles wouldn’t be denied the two points. Christian Sokuljuk sealed the deal to make it 6–4, which held as the final score.

Looking Ahead

That’s two massive wins for the Eagles as they head into their home matchup against their longtime rivals, the Port Perry Lumberjacks, this Thursday, Feb 12.
