Eagles Down Merchants in First Half of Home and Home

The Eagles held their annual Remembrance Day game on Thursday night, where we honor those who gave their lives for our freedom.

1st Period

Little Britain got a good scoring chance first in the game by Defenseman Jason Shears, but a nice stick save by Jairus Ford kept them off the board. The Eagles came back on a rush from Marcus Mori to Carson Mackenzie, but they were unable to best the Merchants’ goalie and former Eagle, Ethan Beattie. The Eagles would strike first though, and it would be Owen White getting the goal. It would need to be discussed by the refs, but it would stand. 1-0 Eagles after 1 period.

2nd Period

The Eagles came out with a pep in their step and got rewarded. First, a goal by Blake Peters Davey at 1:20 of the period, then 22 seconds later, Gianluca Meli got on the board, and in the blink of an eye, the Eagles led 3-0. Then the rough stuff started. First, a fight between Caleb Bidgood and Rheydan McCoy. Then, later after a big hit by Tyus Salter, he would drop the gloves with Ben Stycuk. The Eagles won both of these fights and had a 3-0 lead after 2 periods.

3rd Period

Another quick strike for the Eagles, and it would be Ethan Girard’s point shot finding the back of the net at the 0:29 mark of the period. But the Merchants would get one back also in the first minute of the 3rd period by Keegan Paylor to make it 4-1. Two late goals by the Eagles, one by Charlie Vanhaverbeke and Owen White with his second of the game, put a bow on this one. 6-1 Eagles final. And there was lots of extra activity after whistles in the 3rd—something that could come into play when the two teams meet for a Saturday night date in Little Britain.
