Eagles cut down by Lumberjacks

Game #5: Eagles vs. Lumberjacks

The Clarington Eagles brought a four-game point streak into Scugog Arena on Sunday afternoon. They faced a 4-1 team in the Port Perry Lumberjacks. These two teams met in last year’s playoffs, with the Eagles sweeping a four-game series.

1st Period

The Eagles got the first two power plays of the game, but the Lumberjacks’ penalty kill was able to kill them off before getting a power play of their own at the 17:03 mark after Owen White got an unsportsmanlike penalty. The Eagles managed to kill this off and went to the dressing room tied 0-0. The Eagles slightly outshot the Lumberjacks, 13-12, in the first.

2nd Period

Two minutes and forty-one seconds (2:41) into the period, the scoreless tie was finally broken, and it was the Lumberjacks breaking through with the first goal. It would be Jacob Sharpe with his fourth goal of the season. The Lumberjacks fired 13 shots at Eagles goaltender Nate Gillis and left the second holding onto that 1-0 lead.

3rd Period

Nineteen seconds (:19) into the third period, the Lumberjacks got the all-important insurance goal when Parker Lemay scored his sixth of the season. And then the scoring rounded out in the third with Kyle Den Ouden finishing off a 3-0 Lumberjacks win over the Eagles. Eamon Callaghan picked up a 28 save shutout in the Lumberjacks’ goal.

The next action for the Clarington Eagles will be when they return home Thursday night, October 2nd, to host the Caledon Golden Hawks.
