For the first time this season, the Clarington Eagles battled the Caledon GoldenHawks. The Eagles were looking for a rebound performance to get back into the win column after the offense was shut down in Port Perry over the weekend in a 3-0 shutout loss. The Caledon GoldenHawks are winless this season so far and only had three wins all of last year. This was a special night as it was the annual Clarington Eagles Moms Night, where the players got to pay tribute to one of the #1 fans in their career: Their Moms.
1st Period
The Eagles came out with an effort that made their moms in the stands proud, with countless opportunities to open the scoring, but some good saves were made by Caledon goaltender Max Zemp. Nate Gillis in the Eagles’ net was not tested much in this one; Caledon’s first shot came just over the five-minute mark by Josiah Dunkley, an easy wrist shot handled by Gillis.
After drawing the first penalty for charging, the Eagles took full advantage early on in the power play, with Braydon Hicks getting his third of the season only ten seconds into the extra-man advantage. Before the end of the first period, Hicks would strike again to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead after one period of play.
2nd Period
A great chance for the Eagles’ new rostered player to get his first as an Eagle arose when Dax Moran sat at the side of the net, and the puck almost went off him and into the open goal, but it stayed out, and the score remained 2-0. However, Caledon would get their first goal of the game at the 10:18 mark, cutting this to a one-goal game as Ryan Graves got his fourth of the season. But the Eagles had a quick reply to that when Caeden Allenby would place a beautiful shot top shelf past Zemp for his first Jr. C goal, making it 3-1. The Eagles were not finished there in the period either, as nearing the one-minute mark, Carson Mackenzie converted, shooting one from the side of the net that found a way to beat Max Zemp, and it was a three-goal lead for the Eagles heading to the third at 4-1.
3rd Period
We may be into the third period, but be prepared for a lot of firsts—specifically, first goals in their Jr. C career! Caleb Bidgood, Theo Lavender, and Jackson Gerrow all would score their first goals in this period to end a memorable night for the Eagles at home. Bidgood got one more to make the final score 8-1. It was a five-point night for Braydon Hicks (2 Goals, 3 Assists). Blake Peters Davey had a couple of helpers along the way, as did Gianluca Meli, credited with 3 assists in this contest.
Up Next
The Eagles don’t take long to get back to work; they will travel to Georgina Friday Night, looking to build off this offensive game. The next home action for the Eagles takes place on the Thanksgiving weekend when Port Perry pays a visit to the Garnett B. Rickard Complex on Saturday, October 11th. Puck drop is at 1:25 PM.
