The Clarington (formerly Bowmanville) Eagles have their eyes set on their future.
And past.
The Junior C hockey club is gearing up for its 2021-22 season opener, which will be a road contest, versus the Little Britain Merchants this Saturday.
The Eagles will then square off against the same Merchants on Oct. 7 in their home opener. That match, which will be held at Garnet B. Rickard Recreation Complex, has its opening faceoff scheduled for 7:20 p.m.
Prior to the game, however, the organization will recognize several of its former players. The franchise, which has been around since 1968, has several hundred alumni.
Eagles’ new owner Kirk Kemp is hoping to recognize as many former players as possible during a pre-game, on-ice ceremony.
“I just thought it would cool to build some community spirit,” said Kemp, a former Eagles’ player himself, who helped the franchise win a provincial championship back in 1978.
Kemp added all former players, regardless of how long they spent with the organization, are welcome to attend the season opener.
“If you ever pulled on an Eagles’ jersey, c’mon out and show support for the community and the young guys that are playing on the team now,” he said.
For more details, alumni can contact Kemp at (905) 242-8493.
