Eagles Outshoot Lumberjacks for Latest Win

The Clarington Eagles continued their winning ways Sunday afternoon, defeating the Port Perry Lumberjacks 8-3 at Scugog Arena.

It was another dominant performance from Clarington who outshot Port Perry 55-19 in the contest.

Coach Dean Baumhauer was pleased with his group’s effort. “All four lines were moving their feet, creating good chances and eliminating odd man rushes against. Our back end was efficient and didn’t allow too many second looks.”

Putting goals up on the scoreboard does not look like it’s going to be a problem for this year’s squad. Nine games into the regular season, a dozen Eagles are currently scoring at over a point per game pace.

Nate Stirling scored a hat trick to lead the offence Sunday.

“The Stirling, Klaas, Canini line played their best game together to date,” said Baumhauer.

“Stirling plays the game the right way,” Baumhauer said in conversation earlier this season. “He works hard every shift, prepares for games and practices the right way, and pitches in to help out the trainers and staff. He sets a good example for the younger guys.”

Owen Canini chipped in with four assists and  Adam Klaas had two goals giving the line a combined 9 points on the afternoon.

Defenceman Nolan Matheson had his best offensive performance of the season. He scored his first goal of the campaign and added two assists for three points in the game.

Carter Watson was solid between the pipes once again. He made 16 saves to record his fourth win of the season.  The rookie netminder currently sports a 1.71 goals against average to go along with a .940 save percentage.

The Eagles remain in first place in the Orr division, four points ahead of Little Britain who won both their games this weekend.

Eagles Captain and leading scorer Dawson Manning will return to the lineup this Thursday after serving the second of his two game suspension Sunday afternoon.

The Eagles will take on the Georgina Ice Thursday October 20 at Garnet B. Rickard Recreation Complex.  Puck drop is 7:25p.m.

The game against the Ice will be the final home game in the month of October for the Eagles. It will also be Clarington’s Halloween game. Stay tuned to social media for details and a chance to win a pair of tickets!
