Eagles Win Three in a Row

The Clarington Eagles and Caledon Goldenhawks faced off for the second time in four days on Thursday, this time from the Garnet B. Rickard Recreation Complex in Bowmanville.

1st Period

The first big chance for the Eagles came two minutes in, when #18 Aiden Miller fired from the slot but couldn’t convert. Caledon immediately came back; Ryder Graves had a perfect chance to score, but Eagles goalie Nate Gillis turned his shot away from the face-off dot. Gianluca Meli was then set up perfectly for a walk-in opportunity but fired wide.

The Eagles would score first, though, as Carson Mackenzie converted a pass into the back of the net to make it 1-0. A couple of minutes later, Meli would get his redemption, finding the back of the net after his earlier miss, making it 2-0. Caledon tried to get one back on a stuff-in attempt, but Gillis wouldn’t budge. The Eagles got two more goals in the frame from Brock Matheson and another by Carson Mackenzie to lead 4-0 after the first period.

2nd Period

Caledon got on the board first in the second period thanks to a squeaker goal by Arunas Scott that made its way through Gillis. Ethan Baker had two glorious opportunities taken away from him by Caledon goalie Max Zemp. But Carson Mackenzie continued his strong play, netting the hat trick goal to make it 5-1 Eagles. Next, Baker finally got one past Zemp for his first goal of the game, making it 6-1 Eagles, and would pick up his second to make it 7-1 heading into the third.

3rd Period

If you thought the Eagles were done with seven goals, you were mistaken! They put eight more on the board in the third period with goals from: Ethan Girard, Aiden Miller, Carson Mackenzie, Marcus Mori, Ethan Girard, Gianluca Meli, Ethan Baker, and Gianluca Meli.

With Christmas right around the corner, the Eagles’ goal scorers were: Mackenzie with 4, Meli with 3, Baker with 3, Girard with 2, and Miller, Mori, and Matheson with 1… and a Partridge in a pear tree! 🌲

15-1 is your final score.

The Eagles hoped their offense would continue in the second of back-to-back games, after depositing 15 goals in the back of the net the night before. This time, they played Georgina, a team the Eagles have actually handed one of their few losses this year. They looked to use that as momentum going into Friday at the Ice Palace.

First Period

Georgina outshot the Eagles 20-11 in the first period but couldn’t solve a steady Nate Gillis between the pipes. The Eagles would get the lone goal of the period, coming late at 16:36 on a goal by Owen White. Ben Stycuk picked up the lone assist.

Second Period

Shots were even in the second period at 10-10, and so was the scoring; no goals were scored in the frame. Each team had one powerplay opportunity. The score remained 1-0 Eagles after two periods.

Third Period

Before the ten-minute mark of the period, the Eagles would strike for an insurance goal, coming from forward Brayden Hicks at 9:23. Not even a minute later, the lead went to 3-0 thanks to Caleb Bidgood, and the Eagles were soaring.

Then, chaos erupted on the ice at 13:14 as three fights would take place.

The Eagles would score two more goals after all that was said and done; first it was Theo Lavender, and then Ben Stycuk. After losing the first two games to Georgina in their regular season battle, the Eagles have now won the last two!

5-0 final.
