The Clarington Eagles defeated the Port Perry Lumberjacks in another dominant effort Sunday afternoon at Scugog arena. The boys defeated their hosts 7-0, outshooting them 55-17 in the process.
Despite what head Coach Dean Baumhauer described as a sloppy effort in the first period, the Eagles went into the first intermission with a 3-0 lead.
Brady Darrach led the charge with two goals in the opening frame, along with a short-handed marker from Owen Canini.
The Eagles would dominate play from the drop of the puck in the second period. They allowed only six shots against in the second and third periods combined.
Defenseman Nolan Matheson scored his second goal in as many games to extend the Clarington lead to four early in the middle frame.
Owen Manarin added his seventh of the season, and Kolby Poulin scored his 13th on a late powerplay goal to give the good guys a 6-0 cushion going into the third.
Captain Dawson Manning added his 15th of the season in the third to finish off the scoring.
Jude Rondina was perfect in net, picking up his second win and first shutout in an Eagles uniform.
With the victory, Clarington maintained a four-point lead atop the Orr Division standings over the second place Uxbridge Bruins who won both of their games over the weekend.
The Eagles are back in action this Thursday January 26 when they host the Lakefield Chiefs at Garnet B. Rickard Recreation Complex. Puck drop is 7:25 p.m.
