Eagles get revenge on Lumberjacks

By Mike Jackman

Ready for a rematch between the Port Perry Lumberjacks and the Clarington Eagles, with the Eagles hoping for a little better fate than they got on the weekend after dropping a high-scoring OT game to their rivals.

1st Period

It would start off on the right foot for the Eagles as Ethan Baker would strike first and score his first of the year for the team, beating goaltender Ryan Jacobs. The Eagles kept things coming, actually had an 8-1 shot advantage at one point, and Carson Mackenzie would extend the lead with his 4th goal of the 2025 campaign, assisted by Blake Peters-Davey and Gianluca Meli.

2nd Period

Just like on Saturday, the Lumberjacks did not let a two-goal deficit keep them down and scored two quick goals to start the second. The first goal came at 3:01 by Mac Earle, and then one minute and nine seconds later, the equalizer by Nate Stapleton. We’ve got a brand new hockey game! With time ticking down in the second period, the Eagles would take the lead before the last minute of play when Captain Nolan Matheson took a puck to the net. It was a scramble after, and there to put in his 6th of the season was Brayden Hicks, helping his club head to the room up by a goal going to the third.

3rd Period

In the third period, Eagles goaltender Nate Gillis dialled in and shut the door on any offence the Lumberjacks threw his way, including a nice glove save in close with five minutes left, along with other dramatic saves. The Eagles held on and ended the game with a 3-2 victory. The Eagles now must turn the page as they head to Uxbridge. The boys will have a tough task on their hands tonight as they attempt to give the Uxbridge Bruins (8-0) their first loss of the season.
