🦅 Clarington Eagles vs. Schomberg Cougars Game Recap

For the third time this season, the Clarington Eagles would face off against the Schomberg Cougars. The Eagles had taken the first two games in this regular season battle on the road.

1st Period

Caleb Bidgood came out strong for the Eagles with a couple of great chances early but couldn’t solve goaltender Rafael DeFina. But the Eagles kept rolling, and Bidgood was finally rewarded on a redirect shot from Charlie Vanhaverbeke, putting the Eagles up 1-0. The Eagles kept the offense coming when Ben Stycuk let go of a perfect shot under the bar to make it 2-0. And that’s how it stayed heading into the second period.

2nd Period

Four minutes into the period, the Eagles almost increased the lead to three due to a breakaway by Carson Mackenzie, but it was stopped by DeFina. A Schomberg chance a little later by Dawson Boily was fired right into the chest of Eagles Goalie Nate Gillis. After an Eagles penalty to Blake Peters Davey, a shorthanded goal came the Eagles’ way just 1 minute and 10 seconds later, thanks to Gianluca Meli, increasing the lead to 3-0. Then came another special teams goal—this one a power-play goal (PPG), Bidgood’s second of the night.

3rd Period

Will Stratos tried to get his team on the board to start the third, but his breakaway was stopped by Gillis. This would, however, lead to a Schomberg power play on the play. Schomberg would not score and would then take a costly penalty as Michael Ciaravella took an 11-minute penalty for a one-man fight and was ejected from the game. The Eagles then sealed the deal with goals by Marcus Mori and Drax Moran. Schomberg did score late to break up the shutout, but the Eagles win 6-1, firing 66 shots on goal on the night—a busy night for Rafael DeFina.

Next Action

The next action for the Eagles will be Sunday afternoon, traveling to Port Perry to play the Lumberjacks. Game time is 2:25 PM.
