Eagles Fall to Bruins in Game 1

Eagles vs. Bruins: Orr Division Finals – Game 1

The Uxbridge Bruins were well-rested after defeating the Port Perry Lumberjacks in five games, while the Clarington Eagles had just gone the distance in a grueling Game 7 against Georgina the night before. The question remained: would the momentum of playing last night benefit the Eagles, or would the quick turnaround to start a new series take its toll?

1st Period

The Eagles earned the first big scoring chance when Blake Peters-Davey took the puck to the net, but he couldn’t quite tuck it past Robby DiMaria. The Bruins struck first when a shot from the point was tipped by Danny Thomakos past Eagles goalie Nate Gillis. Just 12 seconds later, Jack Kemp found a way to squeeze one by Gillis on the short side to make it 2-0 after one period of play.

2nd Period

The best chance for the Eagles came on a redirected pass at the left side of the crease, but DiMaria stood tall to make the save. Soon after, the Bruins struck with two quick goals. Evan Gilbert showed great speed to track down a loose puck and score on a breakaway. Less than a minute later, Trent Nobes buried another breakaway chance, leaving the Eagles trailing 4-0 after two periods.

3rd Period

The Eagles turned to Jairus Ford in net to start the third. Ford made several key saves until a point shot from Benson Moore found its way through to make it 5-0. The Eagles eventually broke the shutout when Owen White notched his third goal in two games.

A late power-play goal by Uxbridge brought the final score to 6-1. With the Bruins taking Game 1, the Eagles have a short window to regroup before Game 2 returns to Clarington at the GBRC.
