Eagles End Regular Season on a Winning Streak

Eagles vs. Little Britain – Saturday, Feb. 14

The Eagles entered this game knowing that just a single point would clinch third place in the Orr Division standings.

1st Period

The Eagles dominated early, outshooting the Merchants 13-5. They were the first to hit the scoreboard with a goal by Aiden Miller. Before the frame ended, Blake Peters-Davey kept his hot streak alive, netting his 20th goal of the season.

Eagles vs. Little Britain

Both teams knew their playoff fates before the puck dropped for this Family Day matinee in front of 496 fans at the GBRC. Little Britain was locked into a 4th vs. 5th seed matchup against the Port Perry Lumberjacks. Meanwhile, the Eagles learned they would receive a first-round bye, as both Uxbridge and Georgina elected to play in Round 1.

1st Period

After being shut out on Saturday, the Merchants broke their slump early when Kyle Allan opened the scoring five minutes in. The lead didn’t last long, however; the Eagles tied it up on a beautiful setup to Owen White, who deposited his 12th of the season. The teams headed to the room locked at 1-1.

2nd Period

The Eagles exploded out of the gates, scoring twice in the first five minutes. Blake Peters-Davey continued his tear, scoring his 21st and 22nd goals of the season to make it 3-1. The barrage continued as Ben Stycuk found the net to make it 4-1, followed by Connor Ivey extending the lead to 5-1. One more goal found the back of the net before the period ended, and—to no one’s surprise—it was Blake Peters-Davey completing the hat trick. The Eagles held a commanding 6-1 lead heading into the third.

3rd Period

The scoring dried up in the final frame. Jairus Ford was perfect in relief, turning aside all 5 shots he faced and stopping 12 of 13 overall.

Honoring the Vets

It was a classy start to the game as the Eagles started all five overage players in their final regular-season appearance. Additionally, Eagles Captain Nolan Matheson was presented with a gift to honor his six years of dedication to the Clarington Eagles.
