Eagles downed by Festive Lumberjacks

Game Recap: Lumberjacks vs. Eagles

In what would be the final home game of 2025, the stage was set for a heated rivalry between the Port Perry Lumberjacks and the Clarington Eagles, who were on a roll heading into this Thursday night clash.

1st Period

The Lumberjacks thought they had secured the opening goal when a shot beat Nate Gillis; according to Port Perry, the puck was in the net. While the referees initially signaled a goal, they overturned the call after a brief discussion. The game remained tied at 0-0. The Eagles had several chances at their end of the ice, but Eamon Callaghan stood tall in the Port Perry goal to keep them off the board.

2nd Period

Less than five minutes into the second frame, Caleb Bidgood found himself exactly where he needed to be—at the side of the net—to bang home a loose puck and give the Eagles a 1-0 lead.

However, the lead wouldn’t last. Late in the period, a shot squeaked through Gillis at the 18:02 mark to tie the game. Just 71 seconds later, the Eagles fell behind 2-1 after Dylan Leslie found the back of the net. Following the goal, the “rough stuff” began. Owen White was cross-checked by Aiden Farr, who received a five-minute major and a game misconduct. This sparked a fight between Austin Fata and Seth Clark; Clark attempted to fire up the crowd and his bench as he skated off the ice.

3rd Period

Kyle Den Ouden had several great looks to increase the Lumberjacks’ lead, but Gillis remained strong. Unfortunately for the Eagles, Eamon Callaghan was just as impenetrable at the other end. Callaghan stopped chance after chance, including a wrap-around attempt from Ben Stycuk. When Callaghan couldn’t stop the puck, his defensemen were there to bail him out.

The Eagles could not find the elusive tying goal, and the Lumberjacks escaped Rickard Arena with a 2-1 victory. It wasn’t the way the Eagles wanted to end their final home game of 2025, but they must now refocus for their upcoming road game against Georgina.

Come fly with your Clarington Eagles!
