Eagles down Ice

Game 7 Review: Eagles vs. Ice

When this series started, I don’t think anyone would have predicted that the home teams would lose every single game on their own ice. But that’s exactly where we stood on Thursday night at the Georgina Ice Palace—a winner-take-all environment with the victor moving on to the Orr Division Finals against the Uxbridge Bruins.

1st Period

At 6:40 of the first period, Owen White got the Eagles on the board first with a perfect shot, beating the glove hand of Aidan Lindsay. The Eagles kept the pressure on; Nolan Winter took a pass and drove to the front of the net, tucking it by Lindsay to make it 2-0. Then it was Owen White again—his last name may be “White,” but he certainly knew how to turn the red light on in the first. Scoring on a breakaway, he put the Eagles up 3-0 as they fired 17 shots on goal in the opening frame.

2nd Period

Georgina showed some jump to start the second, but Eagles goaltender Nate Gillis came up with several clutch saves. What he couldn’t stop, the Eagles’ defense did, blocking numerous shots. At 7:49 of the period, Gianluca Meli tucked one past the right pad of Aidan Lindsay, just inside the post, to make it 4-0 heading into the final frame.

3rd Period

There was no let-up from the Eagles in the third. Marcus Mori converted on a rebound from a Ben Stycuk shot, and Christian Sokuljuk capped off the scoring. With the win, the Eagles have earned a chance to battle for the Division Championship for the fourth straight year. Nate Gillis stopped all 22 shots faced for his second shutout of the series.

Game 1 against Uxbridge goes tonight at 7:45 PM in Uxbridge. There is no rest for the Eagles as they immediately turn their focus to a best-of-seven series with the Bruins.

Game 2 returns to the GBRC this Sunday night with puck drop at 7:25 PM. Let’s pack the rink and get behind your Clarington Eagles—we want to hear you make some NOISE!

Come fly with your Clarington Eagles!
