Eagles down Cougars

Game #8: Eagles vs. Schomberg

By Mike Jackman

The Eagles headed to Schomberg on Thursday, looking to rebound from the Georgina game last Friday. These two teams faced off in a close battle on the Eagles’ opening night, which the Eagles won 2-1 on September 11.

1st Period

Schomberg jumped out first in this contest at the 11:58 mark when Gavin Crane netted his first goal of the season. However, the Eagles tied it up at the 18:00 mark courtesy of a goal by Brock Mathieson, a big momentum builder for the Eagles heading into the second period.

2nd Period

What a great start in an Eagles jersey for #22 Blake Peters Davey! He put the Eagles on top in the second period. In a period with very few shots, Schomberg only outshot the Eagles 7-5, but the Eagles held the lead going into the third.

3rd Period

The Eagles did a great job in the third period. They knew the Schomberg Cougars would come out hard, but they held them to just 6 shots in the frame. The Eagles would add an insurance goal in that third period by another great first-year performer, Carson Mackenzie, who scored his third of the season to put the game away for the Eagles in a 3-1 victory. Nate Gillis stopped 18 of 19 shots.

Now, take a day to enjoy the win, and then it’s right back to work against a tough opponent, the Port Perry LumberJacks, on Saturday Afternoon at the Rickard Arena with a 1:40 PM Puck Drop. Come on out and spend your long weekend flying with the Clarington Eagles in a rivalry game with Port Perry!
