Eagles comeback falls short

The Clarington Eagles and Georgina Ice met at the GBRC for what was set to be a great matchup.

1st Period: After a cross-checking penalty by Georgina, the Eagles took advantage. Gianluca Meli found the back of the net on the power play to give Clarington the early lead.

2nd Period: Both teams had numerous opportunities, but it was the Ice who capitalized first as Sebastien Ferris tied the game. Late in the frame, Owen White reclaimed the lead for the Eagles, carrying that momentum into the dressing room for the second intermission.

3rd Period: Within the first four minutes, the Ice surged ahead. Sebastien Ferris scored twice more to complete his hat trick and give Georgina the lead. Late in the game, Antonio Cerqua was called for hitting from behind and assessed a game misconduct. With Nate Gillis pulled for the extra attacker and time winding down, the Eagles’ new acquisition, Christian Sokoljuk, let loose an unbelievable shot to beat goalie Aidan Lindsay. His goal tied the game and sent it to 3-on-3 sudden-death overtime.

OT: Extra time didn’t last long, but unfortunately for the Eagles, they found themselves on the wrong end of the result for the second time against Georgina this year at the GBRC. Seth Kirou secured the win for the Ice, celebrating with a “selfie” celebration as he headed down the ice.

Summary: It was a tough loss for the Eagles, but they’ll look to build on the single point earned as they move on to face Little Britain on Saturday night.
