In addition to the end-of-season awards, the Clarington Eagles players and staff were recognized in a variety of ways during the 2021/2022 season. We want to congratulate the recipients and celebrate these achievements!

The Frosty John’s player of the game award is chosen by a group of fans at most home games. Each award comes with a gift certificate for a tasty meal at Frosty John’s Pub & Restaurant. The archives of this award are available online. The most decorated Frosty John’s player of the game winners were Alex Lepizzera, Mitch Doyle, and Dawson Manning. Each was recognized three times with this award.

In addition, the players themselves nominate a player of the game. This distinction comes with the honour of wearing the coveted team helmet and vest (procured from Value Village by a former assistant coach) and custom WWE-style belt that is much heavier than it looks (procured from California by Craig Wilcox). Here are a few recent recipients:

The Eagles player of the month awards are chosen by the coaching staff and sponsored by Hooper’s Trophies & Promotional and Hooper’s Jewellers. Ron Hooper, Clarington Councillor for Ward 2 and owner of Hooper’s Jewellers, presents the awards at the arena. In the 2021/2022 season, there were two recipients of player of the month awards: Alex Lepizzera in October and Ethan Schoonderbeek in November. Here are the speeches for each player.

Starting in net for six games in the month of October, he compiled a 5-1 record, including two shutouts while working to a 1.50 goals against average and a .937 save percentage. He’s one of the team’s leaders on and off the ice. Please welcome the Clarington Eagles Player of the month for October, goaltender #30, Alex Lepizzera.

With two goals and three assists, totaling five points, this player did much more than produce on the scoreboard. With numerous key defencemen out due to injuries and suspensions, this man stepped up to play massive minutes each night and did so flawlessly. He shows up to every game ready to compete, practices hard, prepares the right way, and has carried the team on his back for the month of November. Please welcome the Clarington Eagles player of the month for November, defenceman #3, Ethan Schoonderbeek.

The Clarington Eagles also won the top goals against award and coaching staff of the year.

Extra special congratulations to Alex Lepizzera, who was named the 2021/2022 PJHL player of the year! This is a significant accomplishment and Alex received his award during the intermission of the Schmalz Cup final game in May.
